Georgian Era Antique Halley's Comet Brooch Pin with Enamel and Handcut Paste Gem in Solid Gold Circa 1835
This is a treasure from my collection that I'm ready to re-home. Pushing toward the 2 centuries old mark, these brooches gained popularity, especially in the 1830s, through the Art Deco era. They were inspired by the famous Halley's Comet that pays a visit every 76 or so years.
This pin features some beautiful detailing for its tiny size! All the black, fine, enamel inlay is in tact. There are some abrasions to the hand-cut gem (which is likely rock crystal quartz (untested). The brooch portion is not marked, but tests at low 14k solid gold in the tail of the comet, and high 10k in the comet head. The actual pin, as typical, does not test for gold.
The brooch measures 1 1/8 x 7/16" and weighs 1.8g.
